i am considering getting another dog/puppy this year ( i currently have the most adorable golden retreiver named lily.. i also have three cats) and have narrowed it down to two breeds..yorkshire terrier and cavalier king charles spaniel%26gt;%26gt; i want a small to medium sized dog that is also active and is friendly and playful%26gt;%26gt; i was wondering which one anyone would recommend or what advantages or highlights there are to each breed
Yorkshire terrier vs. cavalier king charles spaniel?
Terrier energy is usually much higher than Spaniel energy. Yorkies are a bit more breakable depending on size. An oversize Yorkie is easier to play with, than a tiny toy dog that can break a leg if it jumps off the couch wrong.
I happen to love Cavaliers, but I am prejudiced due to years of being a groomer and dealing with matted Yorkies. Both breeds need upkeep, but Yorkies are high maintenance IMHO.
With training both breeds are fine pets. Both breeds can be spoiled into horrid animals, Yorkies are prone to this, as are many Toy Dogs....owners%26#039; fault of course.
Make sure you research the genetic issues so you can avoid bad knees or bad hearts.
Reply:I wouldn%26#039;t get a Cavalier--I really think a Cavalier needs more attention from their owner and would find it frustruating to always be vying for your love in competition with your other dog and cats.
I don%26#039;t know anything about Yorkies--my aunt has one and it appears very cute and loving--I just know Cavaliers seem happiest with a one-on-one relationship and might not be happy among your menagerie.
Best wishes in your decision!
Reply:i have a cavalier king charles spanil and we just love him so i would choose a cavalier king charles spaniel any day.
Reply:YAHOO PETS IS A GOOD RESOURCE
Reply:We have a cavalier and just adore her. She loves to be with people and craves attention. However we do also have two cats and she gets along very well with them probably because she came last. Good luck. Either way your puppy will be very lucky!!
