I want to audition for a part in the play Peter Pan at my school...?

Next year my school is doing Peter Pan as the winter musical and I really want to audition. My school is known for their excellence in the performing arts so this isn%26#039;t a small thing.

I can only do basic dance steps and I really only sing in the shower...if I audition for a silent role, do I really need to sing/dance? I%26#039;m thinking about Tiger Lily...

What%26#039;s a musical audition like? Must I really sing if it is a non-singning role? I did all my middle school plays, but I haven%26#039;t had to sing on stage before. Or dance.

tiger lilly sings and dances. have you never seen the thing on video?
Reply:I%26#039;m pretty sure even the non-speaking roles sing in musicals.
Reply:If your school makes a big deal out of their plays and musicals, good luck getting a major part like Tiger Lilly(who does sing a little and dance quite a bit, btw). If you make it, you will probably be in the chorus/ensemble, and have to sing/dance in the full company numbers. You could also be used to fill space, or travel. That means basically that you could be standing around or moving around onstage, even though the action is somewhere else.

For the audition, you will most likely be asked to sing and do a short monologue, even if you%26#039;re going for a chorus role or non-speaking. A non-singing role is really rare in musicals... I%26#039;ve seen one in all the plays I%26#039;ve done. You may also be asked to do some improv games or other drama activities to warm you up and show the directors how well you do in those exercises. In addition, you may be asked to do a cold reading from the script, and possibly learn and perform a small dance routine that you either have to choreograph yourself, or that someone will show you. In most auditions I%26#039;ve done, though, the dance routine wasn%26#039;t until call-backs. But I can pretty much guarantee you that you will have to sing.
Reply:Well, first of all, Tiger Lily is a singing part. My school put on the play this year and she had a duet with Peter Pan. But, she doesn%26#039;t do much dancing.

And yes, you do have to sing for a non-singing role. Mostly all of the big roles in musicals are solos or duets, so maybe you should try for a very small role... or be in the chorus.

Good luck! :]
Reply:Well for plays when I wanted just a silent part, I just introduced myself.

You%26#039;ll learn choreographed parts, and you could always work backstage, you get lots of play friends doing that.
Reply:there is a chance that they might ask you to sing and dance so make sure to have a dance choreographed and a song practiced and memorized before you audition. also, ou should go for a big part, than stoop down to the little parts if you have to. I hope this helps!!!
Reply:go audition. take every opportunity that comes your way to do something you will enjoy. the drama teacher will place you where he/she sees fit and will guide you all the way.

good luck. when you become rich and famous in theater remember you heard it here on yahoo Q%26amp;A
Reply:Good Luck...but maybe the performing arts isn%26#039;t the best area for you!
Reply:the auditions are script readings without costume but you should sing trust me its not as scary as it seems i was in our school play for alladin and had a whole singing song to my self that was really fun
