Why won't my lilies bloom? Greenery is about 6 to 8 inches tall, haven't bloomed in about 3 years.?

Depends on the type. Some Lillies bloom infrequently, others like Resurrection Lillies will appear to die then a stalk comes up. Some like Oriental Hybrid lillies will bloom their heads off once of age [2 years usually].

If they are not blooming as they should be it is usually due to lack of sunlight. Lillies are sun lovers and do not do well in shade [Do not confuse Plaintain Lillies [Hosta] or Canna Lillies or Daylillies with true lillies. They are a different genus of plants.

Many true lillies are woodland types or grow at the edge of forests in sunny spots with rich humusy soils like some of the endangered types I grow like Michaux Lilly for a special project.

Some lillies like Tiger lillies can handle anything as long as they get good sun.

Lillies like Irises will seldom bloom in shade well except for a few woodland types and even they need part sun.

And they usually prefer to be slightly on the dry side.

Overwatering will allow fungal attacks.

Also many types will bloom poorly if at all if overcrowded. If this is the case dig them up and separate and plant separately in suitable place or container which will usually solve the problem. Tiger lillies are a type that hates overcrowding.

Do they get enough sun? To be at their best, lilies need full sun. Six or 8 inches tall is very small, they might not have enough nutrients in the soil to grow very big. Most lilies reach 2 1/2 feet at least, some grow to six feet tall. You might try moving them to another spot or at least, fertilize them. They do not need cool weather to bloom, they do just fine in my sone 6b garden and further south.

If you are talking about daylilies, which is another plant altogether, they may need divided and replanted in a sunnier spot more fertile spot.
Reply:they could need dividing a lot of perennials, bulbs and tubers need to be divided every 2 to 3 years to keep the plants healthy now if you planted it 3 years ago and it has never bloomed then it could have been stressed or weak when you planted it and it might never bloom.(i hope it just needs dividing)
Reply:If they are daylillies, they may just be overcrowded. Split them up and spread them out and feed them and you%26#039;ll get flowers back again.
Reply:Over crowded. Lacking nutrients.
Reply:You need to fertilize your plants. Miracle grow ,is a good product but their are others also that are on the market
Reply:Your climate might not be cool enough. I think lilies need very cool weather to bloom.....
