Introduction
The book I am reading is called “Pictures of Hollis Woods” and the author is “Patricia Reilly Giff” who I think is an amazing author. She plotted her book step by step to get every reader every interest into it and that is what she did (to me at least). This is one book I finally got interested into it which is kind of amazing. This is an amazing book because it shows how lucky kids or people can be since they have parents. Parents are there for you to help you through life. On the other hand this book shows a girl who is an orphan since she was a baby. She was found in a blanket when she was baby with a note on it that says “Name her Hollis Woods”.
I never really cared about anything until I read this book. I used to always be like my parents are just there and who really needs them. They always work and work but I never thought about why do they work and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here. I need to stop talking about the book and start talking about the author since this is just the introduction. Her name is Patricia Reilly Giff.
This book is not the only book she has written but she also has written books like “Lily’s Crossing” and “Maggie’s Door”. She won two Newberry Honor Books and this was one of them. When Patricia was a young girl she use to love reading so much when her older sister wanted to talk to her, she would have to take away the book from her. Patricia’s favorite books were “Little Women”, “The Secret Garden” and much more. This affection to love went through her blood to her children. She was also a reading teacher for twenty years, a person who gives professional advice for Dell Yearling and Young Yearling books, and last but not least and author for about sixty books. Let us just say she was surrounded by books all her life.
After she got her Bachelors Degree at the college of Marymount she took the advice of her professor and became a reading teacher. She even admitted that she loved teaching and that it was her life and the only reason she left her job because she was writer, teacher, and a mom. During her twenty years of teaching she earned her Masters Degree from St. John University. One morning she told her husband Jim:”I would like to write a book and that is sure what I am going to do”.
Patricia needed an office so her husband Jim cramped two closets together to make one room. So we can say she started writing in a closet but that is better than nothing. She also said that she wants her readers to cry or laugh from the book she has written or to be so interested into the book that they will take it anywhere with them. Ever book Patricia writes she makes kids think about other people or struggles we should all think about. If she is not able to do so she would walk in the park, ask her kids Ali, Jim, and Bill, or lay down just to get an idea to write a book about. When she is on break from writing she usually reads while she is taking a bath or going to the movies. This is what she quotes” I want to see children curled up with books, finding an awareness of themselves as they discover other people%26#039;s thoughts. I want them to make the connection that books are people%26#039;s stories, that writing is talking on paper, and I want them to write their own stories. I%26#039;d like my books to provide that connection for them.%26quot; --Patricia Reilly Giff.
Do i have any errors on my book report?

Reply:I agree with everything hdegrave said. You need to remember that you can%26#039;t write like you talk. You should write more formally. If this is a typical book report then you should stay focused on the story and not on the life of the author. Unless specifically stated otherwise in your assignment. It sounds like you enjoyed the book and got something from it, but you should remember to carefully read the directions. This is a common but deadly error. Is this supposed to be a general summary? Can you give us the specific directions for your assignment?
Reply:1. you should never use I- try saying ---Patricia Reilly Giff is an amazing author who wrote Pictures of Hollis Woods---
2. The title of the book should be underlined.
3. missing some commas--to help read your paper outloud and where ever you pause, there should most likely be a comma
4. Get rid of the sentence that states that you got into the book
5. Don%26#039;t repeat words so often-- like the word baby in the first paragraph
6. Get rid of second paragraph--the paper is not about you it is about the book and the author
7. instead of saying this book is not the only book write %26quot;Other books that Giff wrote are...%26quot;
8. When talking about a person you don%26#039;t know or have never met you shouldn%26#039;t use their first name. Use their last name or use she, he.
9. to cite your quote
...%26quot;connection for them. (Patricia Reilly Giff)%26quot;
Reply:Yes, you have a number of errors.
The first and most important is that your paper has no direction. What do you want to achieve in writing this? Do you want to tell readers about the author, about the social message in the book, about the plot? Ask yourself that question, and re-write it all.
Then think about grammar and other technicalities.
Reply:A few corrections:
