If you've read Deathly Hallows ...?

On the whole, I thought it was quite a good book. Nothing like any of the others though, and probably not my favourite.

Did anybody else thing that that "Nineteen Years Later" bit at the end was just too tacky for words? Sooo cheesy ... Ron with Hermione, Harry with Ginny, three kids called (surprise surprise) James, Lily and Albus.

I personally think that JK Rowling should have left Harry's future well alone.

What did you think of that end bit?

If you've read Deathly Hallows ...?
i thought it was very good and so was the 19 years later bit, but i wished she added more to that but. like what there jobs were, what happened to their families etc.

i hope she makes another book showing what happened between the end of yr7 and 19 years later. would be a good adult book.
Reply:yeah i thought that end part really sucked
Reply:A lot of people don't seem to like the epilogue, apparently that was the bit she wrote at the start and has been writing towards it. I didn't think it was too cheesy myself, and it does leave the doors open for sequels; the adventures of Rosie Weasley and Scorpius Malfoye, perhaps?
Reply:I think J K did it on purpose, to stop any other wannabe authors from taking over and writing more books about him. Although I do admit, I think Ron and Hermione should have called Hugo Fred. And I would love to know who Malfoy had Scorpius with.
Reply:I totally agree with you! But you do have to keep in mind that Harry Potter is first and foremost a children's book (or it was supposed to be) and I guess it's a typical children's book ending. It would have been better left out though, absolutely.
Reply:I wanted more info as well, but here's hoping she does the little encyclopedia type book she's considered doing. I'd love to know what kind of patronus all of the charecters produce and what they'd see in the mirror of erised and the like. There are also a few questions that the book didn't answer that I'd like. such as, what did Dudley see when the dementor was attacking him and did Petunia care about Harry even in some small twisted kind of way? I'd like to know, just so I know, cus you can bed she know's.

actually what I liked about it was that it got darker and I think a lot of readers feel the same, in fact most of the frustration for me as a fan is how people keep telling me it's a childrens book, when I've read adult thrillers that don't hold the tension and darkness that this does.
Reply:I'm guessing she wanted to make clear everything went fine for Harry and she's not going to write about him anymore. I hate the last sentence of the book! It lacks emotivity.

By the way Harry Potter stoped being a children book since the 4th book I think
Reply:The last chapter was OK I guess, but the final line? Awful!
Reply:I liked what happened in the "Nineteen Year Later" bit, but I think it should have been done differently. I think she should have elaborated more on how things came about and the future of the other characters. The whole" I don't want to be in Slytheryn" thing was kind of pointless. But overall, a great book!
Reply:yep I thought it was a bit cheesy, maybe she should have said nothing about their futures and left it up to us to imagine them...

The only bit I liked in the last bit was when he said how Snape was really brave to 'Albus Severus'- I think he needed to admit that. I found it just a bit hard to adjust to their ages and the fact a they all had kids, also thought it seemed a bit old-fashioned how everyone pairs up, marries, and has children.

I think I'm being a bit fussy though, and as most of us thought he would die at the end, we're finding it a bit strange thinking about 'Nighteen Years Later' ...
Reply:The epilogue was unnecessary; the future should've been left open. That's the fun bit - what happens next? And leave it up to your imagination.

I thought the book was OK - nothing brilliant, but the last few haven't been that great. The first three are still the best - they've got the innocence and charm that was sadly lacking in the later books, once the HP publicity machine started going into hyperdrive. I certainly wasn't in tears, as most of the reviewers in the papers seem to have been. Well, I've now got the set, and I'll leave it at that in the printed format, although the films are enjoyable at the moment.
Reply:yea..it was cheesy..once it became clear that harry is gonna survive..it was so obvious who will wind up wid whom and name of their childre...blah!!! i mean it was all so obvious and looked so made-up..i wish the ending shd have been different :(
Reply:i loved the book i couldn't and would not put it down.

i was very happy about the 19 year bit, i hate reading a book and not know what happens with the characters after everything, but i feel that she could have elaborated more on the characters
Reply:i agree too, it's just like a fairy tale- and they all live happily ever after.

i wanted to know what all the character are doing like the wasleys and what became of the dursley's
Reply:I think it was all for the best. Besides, after Voldemort was definitely dead, can you still think of any adventures our protagonists could embark on that would be worthy of another book? And it puts an end to further HP stories. Just use your imagination on what happened in between and what would very well happen after.

ALTHOUGH....

I would love to read something of an epilogue on what happened to the other characters though. Especially George Weasley now that Fred's gone. They're my topmost favorite characters and it was really devastating that JKR killed Fred! For me it was utterly useless to kill him, she should have killed Percy instead or Charlie if she thinks it was imperative that a Weasley family member should die. Would George continue with their joke shop?

What happened to their Hogwarts education since they didn't come back for their 7th year, that includes Dean and the other Muggle-borns.

I would have loved a scene where Harry makes a last visit to the Headmaster's office and have a dialogue with Snape's portrait!

Would Harry kept Kreacher or freed him?

Would he have lived in Grimmauld Place before and after marrying Ginny?

What happened to Rita Skeeter (ooh, it would be lovely if she got reported as an illegal Animagus! and all her Dumbledore biographies taken from the bookshelves!!!)

And Dolores Umbridge? She should be tried and taken to Azkhaban prison for crimes against humanity and just for looking like a toad!

But, as JKR wrote in the final line "ALL IS WELL."
Reply:i think rowling only added in that bit to make sure that noone else could write another HP book...fair enough it was her creation

also, i think i would have been disappointed if she'd stopped the book just after he killed voldy...now we are all satisfied that everything worked out for him...

people must remember that HP is a children's story so it should be a happy ending!
Reply:I think she should have came to an agreement with another author to carry on writing the books even if she didn't want to
Reply:ahhh, i hated the epilogue too!

she should have ended it after he killed voldy.

Reply:I think the ending was good but she could have put it in a bit more nice way.Anyway.. it is good that she mentioned the future becuase i think i would have guessed and pondered on his future. All the children will.It is sooo nice to see harry ,
Reply:The end was worth it, even if it was just for the moment where we find out that Harry named his only child with Lily's eyes after Snape. So sweet!

Course, I am a huge Snape fan :)
