Breeding in Harry Potter??

Has anyone else noticed that everyone had their kids really young in the book? Like James and Lily must of had Harry when they were 19 or 20 (since they were born in 1960 and Harry in 1980). Also in the epilogue, 19 years later Harry had 2 kids already in Hogwarts. (so he started having kids in his early 20s) -- same with Ron, Hermione and Draco.

Merope Gaunt married Tom Riddle Sr. and became pregnant when she was 18/19. (born 1907, voldemort born 1926).

There are some other examples, it just seems weird the whole thing...that they all have their kids so young. Has JK rowling ever mentioned anything about that?

Breeding in Harry Potter??
It's not that weird. I'm in my mid-to-late twenties and have a child starting elementary school this year. Most people I graduated with had children around the time they were in their early to mid twenties (or younger).

Plus, the timing and customs of the wizarding world are different. They basically begin their higher education at the age of eleven, they're of age at 17 instead of 18, there's virtually no mention of college or anything. Percy is 18 when he becomes an assistant to the Minister of Magic, with no outside education beyond Hogwarts, a job that is usually held by people in their twenties. Fred and George owned their own successful business at the age of 18.

Everything else is done at a very young age. It's not unbelievable that they have babies at young ages, too.

The wizarding world is more closed off than the rest of the world. Within Britain, there is a near 100% chance that you would marry someone you went to school with (in the books) because almost every wizard in the United Kingdom attended the same school. Unless you married one of the few foreigners or someone at least seven years older than you or younger than you, chances are you met at a very very early age.

Oh, and in the late 70's and early 80's, it wasn't odd to have children that young.

In the twenties, it wasn't odd to be married at the age of sixteen.
Reply:yea kind of werid .
Reply:Just because nowadays most people are getting married/having children in their late 20's or early 30's; it does not show the whole world. It could be that in some places or communities people are having children at a much earlier age. Maybe JK Rowling is trying to bring this out by showing families having children at such a young age.
Reply:I do not see how that is weird at all... early twenties is a classic time to have your children. In the mid ninties everyone was crying about teenage pregnancy and now everyone is waiting until they are in their late twenties early thirties. Life goes in cycles. Also another concideration is that in the wizarding world coming of age is at Seventeen and was no mention of anything beyond Hogwarts such as college etc. These people left school at 17/18 took on jobs and families etc. I think what is more unusual is that its rare to see families the size of the Weasleys now adays.
Reply:lol well wizards that come of age quickly lose control of their wands! lol ok on a serious note thats not that young...in keep in mind in the wizarding world it seems its in the past!!! like just the mystique
Reply:Well. I think you got a good point.

But it doesn't really affect anything does it?

My mom was 19 when I was born.
