I trest my cat lily like a baby and my boyfriend thinks its stupid he said its only a stupid cat it has no feelings but she's been apart of my life for 13 years and she's always happy to see me and loves hugs. it's just upset me coz my boyfriend said im being pathetic :( im 20 yrs old ...i just treat my cat like a baby whats the problem with that?

Doe's anyone here treat their pet like it's their baby?
Let me tell you sister! I have 2 Shih-Tzus and 3 cats and they are my babies!! I don't give two hoots what ANYONE else thinks...

I was diagnosed with endo a few years ago, and so my husband bought me a dog, just to try to lift my spirits...and I wanted another for him to play with.. The cats belonged to my grandmother who passed away a few years ago, and they are all I have of her. Soo...they are my babies. (As for the whole endo thing, we are going to keep trying, but it sure does make life a little easier having those sparkle eyed babies all excited to see you when you come home from work, waiting to greet you with sugars and loves, and needing you, and loving you unconditionally.

The moral to my story is....

Everyone has a unique realtionship with their pets. Don't let anyone judge you for yours.
Reply:I don't think there is anything wrong with at all, I know alot of people who treat there dog like a baby!
Reply:Your far from stupid, its right to treat animals properly. We have a dog and me my wife and my two boys treat our dog like he is a human, Animals have feelings and need love and fun and to no that they are loved.
Reply:your fit
Reply:I treat all my pets like my babies.. even my horse which is kinda on the big side really. Animals are like humans they want to feel loved and respond better if they are.
Reply:hi i would have to admit i am a bit like that ,i have a 5 month old cavalier king charles spaniel whom i adore ,as do all us animal lovers ,but animals they love you for just being you how many humans do that ?and you have had her for a long time ,your boyfriends just a little jealous that she gets alot of your attention , your not pathetic just love your cat ,remember who came first the cat of the boyfriend but make sure you give your lovely boyfriend lots of cuddles too xxx
Reply:i think ur bf has some serious issues he is a total non animal luvr!
Reply:i have 5 dogs, 2 rabbits and a bird, they are pets, but, i treat them all especially the dogs, they are my babies. They love hugs and kisses and being played with, cuddles just like children do.

I dont think it is wrong, i do not go as far as dressing them up in clothes like some people do!

Ask your boyfriend if his car/bike is his baby!!!
Reply:I also treat my dog [shitzu] like a baby. He is spoiled rotten, I travel a good bit and he is always with me on the plane anywhere I go. My husband to thinks it is crazy to love an animal so much. I think and maybe for your boyfriend to they are just jealous of the attention we give to our dear animals. Isn't it great when you get home and your baby is happy to see you no matter what they are just always happy and just thrilled that you are home. That is a great feeling!! Who wouldn't love that.
Reply:Yeah i have a 6 month old Hamster called Millie, and she is my baby, she always loves climbing on me and giving me a cuddle and i feel she is because without me who else would she have!
Reply:I have a cocker spaniel who is a year old and I treat her like she is a total princess. My husband and I are unable to have children so all of my love and attention goes to her. She is always there when I need her, she never talks back, she doesn't ask for money and she loves me no matter what. What more could I ask for? I don't blame you for treating your cat like she is your baby. Maybe your boyfriend is just a little jealous.
Reply:A cat is an animal and a cat. Cats have specific needs, traits and very definitely their own character. You need to understand that they are not infants, a cat does not need you on an emotional level and if there is access to the outdoors your cat could probably survive on its own.

None the less you are an important figure in their life. A confident and very close friend. Someone they might confide in, however you will never have the same status as a fellow cat.

There are multiple discussions whether a cat actually "misses" their human owner, there is no doubt that many breeds miss fellow cats. Siamese or Bengals, Egyptian Mau are some of the cat breeds which are known to develop mental illnesses when they are alone too much. They bond very strongly either with their owner or fellow cats.

I love my cats very much, I would not want to be without them, but I treat them as cats. I respect that I am just another partner in their life and they are neither my property to play with as I choose nor are they babies which need constant pampering.

If you can find the right balance, you are on the safe side. Another tip for you. Do not go to your cats, wait for the cat to come to you. I promise you that if you stick to that you will have a lot more interaction with your cat during the day.
Reply:I think he's simply jealous of the love you have for your cat.

There's absolutely no problem with you caring for your cat - all genuine animals lovers regard their pets as their "fur babies".

I just wish there were more people out there like you, then animal abuse and neglect would be a thing of the past.

P.S. If he honestly believes that cats don't have feelings, then tell him the Cat section wouldn't be full of people asking why their cat was suddenly having behaving differently or badly to show their feelings have been hurt in some way.
Reply:yes i treat nearly all of my pets like they are babies even my horses..........especially my horses and believe me i have a lot of pets and no i am not going to say what they are.but the one that i treat mostly like a baby is tha horse that is mine called storm. i love him and my mum says that he needs to be disciplined or he wont learn but i dont reaaly like the idea.....what do you think? even though i have to really.
Reply:NO WAY!

Says me sitting on the very edge of the chair as I type so my young cat can sleep in comfort behind me

Me 25% of chair

Cat 75%
Reply:Don't Worry! I'm Exactly The Same! I Love My Lil Kitty Cat To Death! She Even Sleeps On My Pillow At Night. She Always Greets Me At The Door When I Come Home And Is Always Following Me Around The House. There I Absolutly Nothing Wrong With Your Cat Being Your Baby! I Think Your Boyfriend Might Be Jealous Of All The Attention You Give Your Cat. My Best Mate Had The Same Problem Only It Was A Dog Instead Of A Cat
Reply:dont worry i treat my cat like a baby too. dont worry about ur bf he obviously has never has a cat that he is close to so wont understand. my bf treats his cat like a baby too so i think its just a natural instinct for a pet u love
Reply:Yes. my sister has a 2 year old red pomeranian called "Bailey". He even knows me as "AUNTIE". how cute is that?

he gets cuddles, kisses and when it is hot in summer i take a sports bottle out with me on walks so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Now you tell me do i treat him like a baby? lol
Reply:I feel your pain, my boyfriend is the exact same, anyway research shows that women tend to be more that way with pets because of their maternal side. It' like preparing for when you do have kids.
Reply:i'm twenty one and i treat my animals like they are part of the family. especially my cat. he acts just like a baby so i treat him that way.
Reply:Well girly, this is the way i look at it animals have feelings just like humans and they need to be loved!! I honestly I think your boyfriends jealous cuz you ain't giving him like you give to your sweet little kitty!! I have a Guinea pig and i baby her all the time its good cuz your animals feels secure just like a human being good luck!!!
Reply:I have a dog and a cat....i try not to treat them this way especially my dog, as he would then rule the house (he's a boxer).

I do love them both very much but do try and remember that he is a dog and must be treat this way.

Although I do tend to treat my cat more like a baby...x
Reply:I have two cocker spaniels i treat them like babies after all they are my fur-babies
Reply:Oh, my do I ever! My husband and I have been married 6 months and we got our baby one week after the honeymoon. Although we want kids at some time, we like the practice with our little one right now. She is greatfun, and watch out if you have a problem with her energy! She is our kid. I think it is a good thing that you do this because studdies have shown that if you treat an animal a certain way you will be likely to act the same with people. This means with children too. It is important to have your children work with animals at a young age so they will know how to treat others. It is good to remember that animals bleed and cry just like we do so to treat them any less than as if they were our children is wrong. : )
Reply:My cat lived for over 19 years - and I put at least some of that down to me having treated him like he was my baby ! ! !
Reply:Yes i have to admit i'm guilty on this charge. I have one persian indoor cat who i have spoiled rotten. She came to me as a stray 5yrs ago and kinda adopted me. She is the queen of the house, whatever she wants she gets.

I also have a dog but for obvious reasons she doesnt live with me she is my second baby but she has some manners !!!

I AM 36 AND I THINK YOUR BOYFRIEND IS JUST JEALOUS OF THE ATTENTION YOU GIVE YOUR CAT ! !
Reply:I treat my horses like my babies and I split up with my boyfriend since he said I cared more about them than him, and I answered 'so what?!' Tell him to shut up, I'm sure he has things he really cares about too.
Reply:My two shih tzus are my babies - and one of them has a birthday today. Say Happy Birthday to Jessie, who is 4 today.
