Can you remember a toy from your childhood?

please be specific and give one from early childhood, also give your age so we can compare and see if we had the same toys from that time.

(I'll go first, I had lots of toys, but I remember a few in particular from when I was very small, like 6 or 7 years old.

Does anyone remember those little plastic mermaids with the long hair that came with a baby mermaid and a sponge lily pad with holes in it to stick the mermaid and baby in?

A Battlestar Galactica ship that shot out a little plastic nail instead of the cool laser on the show

Reply:I don't remember any mermaid toys, but when I was 5 or 6 I had a gloworm toy. It was a green stuffed worm with a plastic face. When you squeezed it the face would light up. There used to be a Gloworm cartoon too. I was born in 1982.
Reply:What a charming question!

The first toy I remember was a painted, lead-casting figure of a television cowboy hero called Hopalong Cassidy. Small enough for a six year old kid (me) to hold in my hand, keep in a pocket, or play with in the dirt.

Funny thing is, I have an even clearer memory of an artifact I owned at the age of 5 but it wasn't, strictly speaking, a toy. It was a red metal shoe-shine kit with a slot on one end where you could deposit coins into a little box that I could get at by unscrewing a wing-nut to collect my treasure.

I worked the sidewalk just outside our stoop in St. Johns, Newfoundland (my father was stationed there) and had three regular customers who probably thought I was too cute for words. The price of a first rate shoe-shine was five cents, and I just loved to hear that nickel drop through the slot.

That was 53 years ago. Thank you very very much for rekindling pleasant memories.
Reply:I was born around the same time as you and I remember a plastic penguin who would flap his wings as he walked - I was 6 then!

Reply:well i remember my Noni !

well i really dont know how i came up with this name!

but mother told me that whn i was 4 and we were walking past a toy shop i started calling this name to this Pink Rubber Bear which gave a small "cheeen" when squeezed!

but i do remember it ,

i, being the only child of the house, never lost, or in that case, broke my toys,

so i had it till i was 12 or so .

but then the legacy was passed on to my cousin, and my sweet little no-nee became a victim of his curiosity!

"shade !"
